A concert performance for two clowns and a string quartet

Acclaimed talents from theatre and classical music come together in a work created by the actor duo Timo Ruuskanen and Tuukka Vasama, along with violinists Minna Pensola and Terhi Paldanius.

Voces will premiere at the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, where the actors will be joined on stage by the string quartet Meta4. A second premiere will take place at the Our Festival (Meidän Festivaali) with the Kamus Quartet.

The concert is in Finnish with English subtitles.

Voces – Intimate Voices is built around Jean Sibelius’s string quartet in D minor, “Voces intimae”. While composing this quartet, Sibelius was diagnosed with a throat tumor, which deeply influenced his writing.

Death — and the fears associated with it — form the thematic core of this performance. Throughout history, esotericism and the secret sciences have inspired artists in their search for deeper meanings in life—meanings that elude clear definition.

In this concert, works of the following composers will be heard: Ludvig van Beethoven, Jean Sibelius, Ida Moberg, Arvo Pärt, Kaija Saariaho, Bryce Dessner, Max Richter, Krishna Nagaraja, Gabriella Smith, Lotta Wennäkoski.
